I've recently received my first shipment of MRF-300 units. They work very well on their own, but the daisy chain function as outlined on page 4 seems to be having problems - i.e. the RFX receives the signal, but it doesn't transmit to the second base station in the line (or any others in the line for that matter). Only the actual base station with the antenna plugged DIRECTLY IN will receive signal - it's not being transmitted via the mini cable. Any thoughts? I'm troubleshooting with Universal also, but their solution was to send the equipment back to them...and I have to install it ASAP. I tried a completely separate, new set of equipment with the same setup and it still didn't work. And the engineers at Universal were all able to make it work with my program...which is weird. Any help is appreciated.

Tripp,

A couple of things come to mind...

1) What kind of plug are you using? Stereo or Mono? I believe you need to be using stereo (tip-ring-sleeve).

2) Do you have the units set to different addresses?

If those ideas don't help, please tell me how the wires are plugged in and any other details, so I can get a solid picture of your setup and replicate it.

Thank you,
Damon DG

RFX plugged into MRF 1 with stereo plug that comes in the box. Then, used the mini stereo plug that came with MRF 2 to plug RF out from MRF 1 to RF in on MRF 2. Did not use the cut cables with tinned ends for anything. MRF lights up when I send commands to MRF 1 (the unit with the RFX connected directly). When I send commands that should work wtih MRF 2 (through the stereo cable), MRF 2 does not respond. The antenna lights up every time (the RF status light on the RFX), but the status light on MRF 2 doesn't ever light. No matter what. MRF 1 is set to ID 1 and MRF 2 set to ID 9, though changing the ID numbers hasn't made any difference. I think that's about it for setup. Let me know if you find anything...

So here's an update from Damian at Universal Remote who's been extremely helpful in this - he's put up with a ton of phone calls from me and been happy to help (quick plug for the techs at HTM). According to the engineers who've been handling the problem, the entire first batch of MRF-300 units are defective. The beta versions that they tested in the offices there all worked, but they've found a flaw in all of the new units on the first shipment. In their estimation, it will take between 4 and 6 weeks to recall all of the units and replace/repair them.

My apologies to the people who don't get their MRF units because I found a bug...hate to be responsible for all of that. But I figure someone else would have found it later if I hadn't.

If anyone hears differently from all of this, post a reply - can't hurt.

That is very disappointing, but I know URC will ultimately do the right thing for it's customers.

It may not be all of the units. That's being determined right now. As mentioned above, if you use the RFX-150 with each MRF-300, you're good to go.

Mike am I correct in understanding that if you are only using one MRF-300 that it will avoid the problem occuring?

Thanks

Pete

Yes. The problem occurs when you try to use more than one MRF-300 with only one RFX-150 antenna.

I was about to purchase a MRF-300 and don't think I will be affected. Is there a PDF somewhere for the instructions? URC web site has no info.

I installed my first one today, everything went smooth until my routed ir switched to a different flasher port. My DVD intermittently stopped excepting commands, I realized its flasher had no led confirmation, but the receiver's flasher was outputting instead. I swapped the unit, so far so good...
