Just got the MX-800 and boy am I frustrated. I can't get it to work with the Sony HD200 sat receiver. I have downloaded 3 systems from this forum that claim to have found codes for the HD200 and they do not work on my remote. What could I be doing wrong? I have also downloaded HD200 codes for the Pronto and cut and pasted the learned codes using the MX editor universal browser. This has not worked either. I hate to have to get rid of this remote. Any suggestions out there?

Does the MX800 learn the codes from your HD200 receiver?

I doubt the MX-800 is at fault - Sony HD200 codes are fairly standard (despite what they say). Has the device been set to RF in MX Editor?

The MX-800 says "GOOD" when I try to teach it the codes from the HD200 remote, but then they don't work. I have gathered from other posts on this site that there is something unusual about the HD200 codes (hex codes??) that the MX-800 can't learn. But, other posts also indicate that it is possible to teach the MX-800 the HD200 codes anyway. I have tried several of the solutions already posted, but obviously I am still doing something worng.

I just checked, all components are set to IR and RF. So, you're saying I should be able to have the MX-800 learn the SAT-HD200 codes just like any other remote? It's just not working,... On 11/28/03 15:20, Daniel Tonks said...

Just a stray thought.
Can the HD200 can be setup to use either IR or RF? Have you checked for a hardware IR/RF switch or its setup menus to see if you are set to to IR or RF?
Hopefully, its something this simple.

Just so you know, I have the Sony SAT-HD300, and my MX-800 controls it perfectly. I believe the HD200 and HD300 are close to being the same with just a few exceptions.

i bet you have the emitter in the wrong place on the front of the hd-200. sony uses that damn mirror glass that is even hard to see through with a flashlight. i would put money on it that it is your emitter placement if you are using the mrf-200.

Thanks for all the input, but still no luck. I'm not using the emitters yet and there is no IR/RF swtich on the unit. Does anyone on here have the MX-800 and the HD200? I'd like to know first hand if these units truly do work together. If you do have them, did you have to go through any special steps to get the unit to learn the codes?

Many HD200's are in use with the MX-800. UNPLUG the MRF-200 base station (to temporarily remove the IR blaster from the troubleshooting list of variables) and try the MX-800 line of sight. If it still doesn't work, try teaching the MX-800 standalone in another room, out of sight of any peculiar light etc. Feel free to give me a call all weekend, I am working. Please see this ealier post: [Link: remotecentral.com]There appears to be an interference issue with the HD200 and RF. It works fine with the MX800 in IR mode but is very finicky and unreliable in RF or both mode.

Thanks for all the input. After a very frustrating weekend, I found out it was just an interference problem. I still had my old Leap Frog remote extender plugged in. Once I took that out, it works perfectly! I don't know why the Leap Frog unit was only interferring with the HD200 signals, but it was. Now I will hook up my MRF-200 and emitters and see if I can get everything working in RF mode.

I had a somewhat similar problem with my MX 500 and as it turns out all other remotes that I tried with my system at times.
Sometimes nothing would work and I finally realized it was only when my laptop was on. Took me a while to figure out what my 802 11 b wireless could do that would cause these problems. Turns out that my Compaq also has an IR emitter for communicating with various devices such as sending reports to a printer that is not hardwired to the computer. Turned of the ir support in the laptop and all was well.
I also use a number of extenders in my home. I use these as I take the output of my Direct/TV/Tivos and via the out to tv coax, I send Tivo to other rooms in my home including my garage. With these extenders I can then watch Tivo anywhere in the house.
Works very well but do wish that Tivo had RF support like most non Tivo sat receivers have.
