I KNEW I should have paid more attention to my logic class in college!

How can I keep track of the power on/off status of 2 or 3 compoments at one time in the MX-950? Neither the TV (Samsung DLP) nor the cable box (Samsung 8300HD) nor the reciever (Denon AVR-2805) have discreet on/off codes, so I'm trying to come up with a way to track thier on/off status by using variables.

Problem is, the variables are disfunctional if you put more than one in a macro.

For instance....if my client is watching a DVD using the dvd player and the reciever set at DVD and the TV on component2 ,is there any way I can let him punch just one button (HDTV) on the WATCH screen to turn off the DVD, then check the on/off status of the TV, Cable box, and the reciever?

I'm loving the 950 so far, but I may even have glorious sex with it if I could find a way to work around this.

Try to download my MXA for the MX-950 which I have posted to this site and play with it. It will answer all your questions.
Best Regards!

I don't believe in doing these "guess state" macros for customers, if someone who fully understands the implications of "guess state" macros and a system becoming "out of sync" wants to do this for himself/herself that's different.

In the interest of sharing knowledge here goes. The best way to do this is to create two buttons on one of your tv pages, ON and OFF.

Select the ON button
From TYPE select VARIABLE.
Create a new variable called TV_ON.
Select that variable
On the "0" tab put in a TV POWER TOGGLE
Next set the TV_ON variable to "1".
Save your macro.
With this button your TV will turn on and the variable is set high only if the current variable (TV_ON) state is low. If you press ON and the variable is high (1) nothing will happen because (the tv should be on) we didn't put any steps in the 1 tab

Next select the OFF button.
From TYPE select VARIABLE.
From Variable select TV_ON
On the "1" tab put a power command
Next set the TV_ON variable to "0"
With this button your TV will turn off and the variable is set low only if the current variable state is high (tv is on). If you press OFF and the variable (TV_ON) is low (0) nothing will happen because (the tv should be off) we didn't put any steps in the 0 tab

You now have pseudo discrete buttons. When you press ON the TV should turn on or already be on and stay on. Same for off.

When you record your DVD macro, use this TV ON button to make sure the TV is on. You can reference a macro inside a macro (nesting) as long as the macro you are referencing isn't on a watch or listen page. You must bury them inside of a device.
There are 10 types of people in this world,
There are those who understand binary,
and those who don't!
