I have the MX-600. It works perfectly on everything I have (receiver, tv, vcr, sat, dvr, switch, cd) except for my DVD playe. If have the KOSS KS3102 (it is a receiver/dvd player combo, but I only use it as a DVD player).
None of my codes for the MX-600 work, so every button has to be learned. They all get learned just fine. No fails at all. But each button will only work once until a different button is used. What I mean is if I press the left arrow key, it will work, but when I press it again, nothing happens. But, if I press the left arrow key, then press some other key, and then press the left arrow key again, it works.
It is like this for every single button. I have relearned the buttons again and again, with new batteries and using all the different methods described in the learning guide (
[Link: remotecentral.com]) and nothing helps. Either the learning trick fails and the button does nothing at all, or the learning trick works just like normal learning and the button will only work once until some other button is pressed.
Also, after pressing a button and then wanting to use that button again, the other button I press has to actually do something or else it won't work. For example (with the MRF-100 unplugged): I'm at a menu. I can go up, right, or down. If I press up, it goes up. If I press up again, it does not go up. If I press left, nothing happens because the menu cannot go left. If I then press up, it still does not go up. But if I press right, it goes right. And if I then press up, it goes up.
I have my old SL-9000. If I learn the buttons to that, they work perfectly! I've even tried learning the commands to the SL-9000, and then learning the commands from the SL-9000 to the MX-600 and I get the exact same results. None of the codes for the SL-9000 work so I can't try to learn those either.
Also, I notice some odd behavior when looking at the MRF-100. When I press buttons for all the other devices that work fine, the status light that flashed on the MRF-100 is quite bright. But when I press the buttons for the KOSS, the light is only half as bright. Does this mean the signal is being sent with less strength or something like that?
I've been reading a lot and from what I've read I'm starting to get an idea of what the problems might be. I think it's just a property of how the remote sends signals. I've read things like the MX-600 can send pprog toggle buttons, but cannot learn them. Or that some remotes have parity bits. Stuff like that. I may be mixing them up, but I'm guessing my problem with the KOSS is one of those. I think this because my problem is so absolutely specific and nearly 100% predictable. If it was interference or bad learning, I don't think this consistency would be present.
So what do you all think? What can I do?
edit: I removed the stuff about the DVR because it turns out the problem was from signal saturation. I pointed the MRF-100 away from the equipment a little and it works fine now.
