Does anyone know a UNIVERSAL Remote that works home DVD Recorders ?
I have a TOSHIBA DR-2 and a PANASONIC DMR-ES10

I am unable to find a Universal Remote to work these DVD Recorders

I have the One For all URC 8910. I sent it back to Universal twice to upgrade.
But they were unable to get it to work my ES-10.

Universal was very nice, and tried hard, but were unsuccesfull in getitng it to work these units.

Please be kind enough to reply if you know

Thank You

The 8910 can be upgraded by .wav file over the phone, so why did you need to send it in?

I didn't find specific data for the DMR-ES10 but all similar models that I found data for (Panasonic DVD recorders) use the same code set as each other and pretty much the same as Panasonic DVD Players (setup codes DVD/0490 and DVD/0632).

There is info in the JP1 group about two alternate addresses for Panasonic DVD devices. I expect that, like other brands, Panasonic has some menu or other process to switch a device to an alternate address to allow you to remote control two of the devices in the same room.

Both DVD/0490 and DVD/0632 are the primary address.

If the address was the issue, I'm very surprised UEI customer support couldn't figure that out and give you a working upgrade. Did you send in the Panasonic remote for them to investigate?

The three possible explanations I can think of are:

1) Operator error: UEI support gave you what they should have given you, but you didn't understand how to test it. Maybe if you describe more about what you think they did and what you think you did, we can spot the error. Within that, be aware that any partial success at controlling the device is very significant. We understand your goal is to entirely control the device, but many users say just "didn't work" for partial control, concealing the path toward the solution from the person trying to help.

2) It's the address and UEI support didn't understand that. You can make a Panasonic DVD upgrade using JP1 software and load it via .wav file into your 8910 and test it. I know of only two alternate addresses, so trying each shouldn't be hard.

3) The DMR-ES10 uses different I signals from all the other Panasonic DMR devices and UEI support didn't figure that out. I don't really believe either of those things. Panasonic is very consistent and UEI has a very good database of which models don't fit the general rule of each manufacturer. If that's the case you would be even further in the dark trying some other universal remote (brand or model). The only practiacl answer would be using a JP1 cable and software to directly examine the signals from the Panasonic remote.

I didn't look up details for the Toshiba, but they're even more consistent across models than Panasonic is, so everything I said above likely applies to them even more so. Taking both the Toshiba and Panasonic into account the only plausible theory is operator error.

The codes worked, but two commands were missing, see his posts in the OFA forum.
