I am new to high end remotes like this one, so I have a basic question. Can you upgrade this remote's software? I know you can hook it up to a PC, so does that mean it may have added features in the future? For instance, now it cannot do timmmers. Could it be upgraged to to them in the future? Thanks a lot.

In general, yes, the firmware can be upgraded to add new features in the future. Specifically with regard to timers, the MX-1000 seems to have that capability since it has an internal clock (with date, no less!), but I don't think anybody here knows with any certainty if it is really possible or whether it will be done.
And just to be clear, the manufacturer is currently the only one who can produce firmware updates for these remotes, since the platforms are proprietary.

Do you guys think there will every be configuration files like that of the Pronto? I think that being able to download specific set-ups for individual models is outstanding.
