Hello,
I'm trying to connect my remote controls via serial connection to my PC.
Both MX700 and MX200 are working flawlessly in remote control function.

But I cannot get a working PC connection for some re-programming I want to do. Error code 102-27UU-0000 is displayed some seconds after clicking "upload/download or "firmware version".
However, the MX-200 starts blinking the red LED when clicking, and the MX-700 shows "Fail! 0" in the display bottom line. So I think there's some kind of connection established.
MX-Editor v1.12.267
I've tried two PCs, Win10 with USB-2-serial and ooold WinXP with onboard serial.
I tried different configurations of BAUD rate (9.600 to 115.200) and different settings (8N1, 7N1, x-on or no flow control, cache yes/no) but I cannot get any connection working.
I'm confused because I think it's unlikely that both remotes stopped connecting.
I assume that I'm doing something wrong... ;-)
Anybody here who has an idea?
Kind regards
Alex

I'd say that if you tried with your USB to serial adapter and with a computer that had a built-in serial adapter then the issue may be your URC cable. That is the go between remote and computers that is identical in all scenarios. I agree that it seems unlikely that both remotes are bad.

If you decide to look for a new cable be aware that all that look like what you have do not necessarily work. The pinout connections are not all the same for cables such as these. Just be sure it is guaranteed to work with the URC MX700. There are directions on the Internet (and maybe here on Remote Central) showing how to make a cable.

Thanks a lot for your reply, hdtvluvr!
Do you happen to know WHERE I can find the directions on the cable?
I made my own cable with pin5-ground, pin2-tip, pin3-ring.
Flipping pin2 and pin3 results in the remotes not even showing any response at all (like blinking or the error code).

Tip is pin 3 and ring is pin 2 with ground at pin 5. Maybe a bad solder joint? Or a break in one of the wires. Did you check the final product with Continuity meter?

Yes, I checked, 0-ohm impedance, no x-joints or shorts.
I also tried reversing pin2 and 3 - but then the software immediately reports an error.
Can you please tell me the exact communication-settings of your serial port?
[i.e. 9.600bps, 8 bits, no parity, 1 stop-bit, UART / FIFO Buffer yes/no, etc...]
THANKS in advance!

Your post about pin outs above indicate you had them backwards originally. Please see my post indicating the correct pin outs.

I do not know what the computer settings should be as my Computer is not with me. It’ll be 2 weeks before I can get back to it. I’ll see if I can find the info elsewhere

Don’t delete the mx700 software that you have but you could download this version which was for a rebranded mx800. Install it and see if it works with the correctly built cable. Mx800 had RF ability and that functionality is in this software. It obviously won’t help you in that aspect but may install with all the correct settings.

I looked through the original owner manual above and it did not have any computer settings. It did have the pin out info to build a cable though.

Here is the file link

Thanks a lot @hdtvluvr!
I'll look through the material during the new week.
Although I think that I've obeyed to all of the cable and communication hints.
I'll let you know...
Thanks for your time and help! Really appreciated! :-*
