I've been using 850's since around the time they first came out. They replaced MX-700's for me. Currently have 3 in use.

Just wondering how many may still be in use.

We now have 4 850's in use and several new and used waiting for the original 4 to kick the bucket. We were also using the mx-200 until a few years ago. It is a very nice few button remote. Have a couple used ones and several brand new just sitting in a drawer now.

Oh, if anyone is having issues with the buttons, check out the keypad repair kit. It works extremely well.

I recently picked up an MX 850. Revisiting this hardware after many years, I used the MX-500 a long time ago. The 850 is really a robust remote.

What are the differences between the MX500, 600, 700, 750 and 850? I know the last 3 models work with MX Editor, but was wondering what were the primary differences between the models with respect to internal hardware (memory, CPU, clock speed, etc)

And what's the difference between an "Aeros" and a remote that says "MX-850" on the front versus a "Aeros"? I know the Aeros and 850 are the same but came across one remote that says "MX-850" on the font of the remote.

700 had a wheel for the cursor and the select was the center of the wheel. The 800 & 850 had a dedicated button in the center of the wheel. the 850 had RF. Aeros was a first generation designation. Nothing important - just marketing.

MX-500, 600 and 650 are standalone non-computer-programmable. 600 and 650 are RF. 650 has a newer finish like 850 below. Capabilities are the same.

MX-700 was the first computer programmable model, in beige. It came after the 500 and before everything else. MX-800 and 850 are both RF. 850 mainly changed from a silver case / white/clear glossy “gemstone” keypad on the 800, to dark grey / matte medium silver painted and laser-etched keypad. Both 650 and 850 have separate “OK” buttons that are generally easier to hit than prior designs.

Otherwise they’re all pretty similar, with no practical difference in terms of speed or memory. Some will have a marketing name like “Aeros” and some won’t (every one of these had a name like that at one time), but it’s the same product.

You will also find these remotes sold under other names. Some OEMs provided them with a/v receivers and such, and after URC stopped marketing them, another company sold a version of the MX-850 under their name, and the software for that is compatible with other URC models too.

Remember Aeros was the second name, first it was called Orion.
