Logitech is working (feverishly) on a firmware update to fix the initial "known" issues on the 890. I haven't been given a list of everything they're addressing right now but we're being told that the new firmware will fix any major issues and will be up in the next one to two weeks tops.

I'll post anymore information I can on the firmware status.

Well and here I thought it was just me!

I'm getting the same Java error which is maddening, have contacted customer support via email - no response. I called them and spoke to a chirpy CSR, probably in Bangalore, be prepared to go through all the inane stuff, turn off the fire wall, disable pop up blockers, use IE, reboot windows, reinstall the software, as you patiently try to explain that you really do understand how a PC works and what about this Java error.

You may have some luck not using the java software and going through the browser site;
http://members.harmonyremote.com

I also found that instead of updating the remote via the update remote feature if I instead go through the "get support" tab and then "test remote" it will update the remote sans the java error. BUT I'm having no luck with the RF extender, it recognizes it, adds it to the system and then sends everything out via IR, works beutifully but like someone said, $400 for an IR???

Any ideas on that one will be appreciated

Mine won't even recognize the remote. I get to the updaye, the window pop's up saying to wake up the remote, I press a button on the remote, it say's USB connected, then nothing...... Still waiting.

I know there were some bug's here, but how do they sell something like this??

This remote was released far too early. I just hope they can fix all the issues via software so that I don't have to write off $350.

The quick fix for the Java error is to only select 5 or less devices in RF mode. I understand they're working on a fix for this. As for the RF receiver dropping off, who knows.

on thursday night they posted new firmware for the remote (now 4.4) and also the extender (1.4). The issue where the remote won't connect with the extender is fixed.

The java errors when you have more than 4 devices being controlled by RF is still a problem. (To overcome this temporarily set device(s) you rarely use to being controlled by IR).

There's another thread where we have been talking about the connect problem... the main dialog will be there

over and out

I have the new 895 with the firmware 4.4 and 1.4 for RF extender. I have the problem that the remote will freeze while sending to a device. The only which will help is to remove the akku. But freezing will only occur when I have had registed the RF extender before. I didn't had linked a device to the RF extender!

Now I use the remote without the RF extender hoping for a fix or respond from Logitech support.

goldfinger: Same problems here, had problems with the software on both PCs and Macs. Got it to work on the Macs and I really like the remote. (First couple of hours I was swearing ;) ) Ironically I had the RF extender working with my Direct TV Tivo HR10-250, but now it doesn't. I have same firmware updates as you do..... Now if they fix this, this could be a great Remote even better than my MX-850. I am only tring to control 1 device via RF, the rest of the equipment is in the room I use. Also they should make it everytime you need to update the extender and remote you don't have to do both, especially if you haven't made any changes to the RF extender. I will call Logitech tomorrow and see what they have to say. Keep me posted....

Today, unfortunately my 895 freezed without registered RF extender.
This didn't happend wth the 885.

It seems to me that harmony support is not so good like some months ago.

I tried to load the manual for the 895 with the client software V6 (6.2.3.46) but I only get the handbook for the 600 series (600_UserManual.pdf)!
The word "manual" or "handbook" is wrong because in the best case it's a manual flyer. There a lot things missing:
That not all IR sequences will be transmited to the RF extender.
That you have to link a device to the remote or to the RF station.
And last not least that you have to update both the remote and the RF extender when you will change your configuration.

Further I didn't find the link to give logitech a feedback why I did rate the harmony so far only with the note poor. On the membersite there was a link "Click here to provide feedback" which I used for it.

All together I receive a bad impression.

RF Connect issue is not fixed for everyone in 4.4 and 1.4. They are still working on it.

Is there any way to roll back the firmware? Ever since I updated to 4.4 none of my devices will respond and the remote locks while trying to turn on any device. Everything worked perfectly before this update.

I agree...There must be a way to revert to the old firmware. Does anyone know? My remote has been rendered useless by the latest firmware, I dont mind waiting a day or two, but I would certainly prefer to go back to the old firmware while they figure it out.
