I tried the Pronto codes you provided, and they work as advertised, i.e. Power On turns the device on, Power Off shuts it off, etc. But I'm having problems with the Format codes, particularly when using DVI to connect to my TV, which is a Samsung HLN567W DLP.

Do you have a discrete code for the HTL-HD's Auto DVI format setting? This may solve my problem: Because we still watch a good deal of SD programming on DirecTV, we use the Auto DVI setting. That way, the receiver selected the appropriate aspect, i.e 4:3 for channels like CNN and Food Network, 16:9 for local digital channels and HDNet. Now, with DVI, there's no longer an Auto DVI choice. When I press the Format button on the front of the unit, the receiver remains in the format I chose via the discrete codes on my Pronto. The result is, there's no way for me to unstretch anything when using the DVI connection. When connected via component, I can still change the aspect, but depending on the content, I have to use the STB's Ratio button, the TV's Aspect button, or both. Even though I've put them on the same panel of my Pronto, that's too much complexity for my wife to deal with.

Am I making sense? I'd appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks, Bill

The way it seems to work is the DVI connection works with your TV to determine which of the settings(Var1,2,3,Native) will work the best, based on what your Tv can handle. After it does this, it will RELABEL that mode as EZ DVI.

For example, when I turn on my TV and HTL-HD, most of the time it says EZ DVI(sometimes it says Variable 2). What it has done is determine that the Variable 2 mode is the best for my TV. So in MY situation, EZ DVI = the Variable 2 mode. However, this is different depending on the TV and what the DVI connection determines. If say it determines that Variable 3 is the best mode for your TV, then EZ DVI = the Variable 3 mode.

What you will need to do is test the codes for each mode, to determine which one puts the box into EZ DVI mode(as per the display). The above Pronto codes are based on a Component video connection, not DVI. I have determined that while the same range of codes are used, the individual codes are swapped around.

Yes, what you say is clear. I've tried some, but not all of the codes; I'll run through the rest tonight.

Here's something else I can't figure out. My DLPTV handles 480p, 720p and 1080i. But when I'd watch something I was certain was coming in at 1080i, for example, "Everybody Loves Raymond" on CBS, EZ DVI would force it to be 720p. I wonder why it does that?

Probably because the native mode of your TV is 720p, not 1080i(your TV probablt downconverts the 1080i to 720p). Thus the DVI sees this and does the conversion instead of the TV. If you want the TV to do the conversion, then you need to put the HTL-HD into Native mode.

man....i cant figure out how to use this hex thing on the pronto edit. Anyone have any quick instructions on how to do it??? My remote is driving me crazy since it wont accpet learning the number 6!!!!

I've input all the codes into my 7000NG and they work great. I am very happy that the "format" codes work, as the only way to change formats before was via front panel. Not saying that a front panel only format change is bad, but when the equipment is in the basement, stairs can suck.

Has anyone tried the discrete resolution IR codes (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i) for the Hughes HTL-HD on the Hughes Hi-Definition Tivo HR10-250??? Do they work???

It's my understanding that the Tivo HR10-250 uses the standard TiVo command set that is different than the Hughes HTL-HD, but I don't have either one.

I tried the power and format discretes on the HR10-250 and they did not work, so it must be a different code set.
