As far as I know, WD never implemented discrete power codes. Seems there's a way to do it through a hack [Link: remotecentral.com] but it might be more than you want to get into.

There are no official discrete ON and OFF codes as such, but you can make your own. Basically there are 2 scripts to be put into your media player & what they do is look at the status of the media players LED power indicator, wether it's ON or OFF & then envoking the appropriate script. But it's not an easy process.

1st you have to reflash your player with a Homebrew Firmware from

It took me a long time with lots of help from these guys, but I got there in the end, also there is the danger of winding up with a dead unit if things go wrong.

NOTE: you can only use the Homebrew firmware for WDTV Live & WDTV Live Plus media players, the new Western Digital WD TV Live streaming media player can't be hacked.
