LG's MPI port allows control of commercial TVs. Unfortunately, this port is disabled if the TV is in free-to-guest mode (i.e., a channel map has been downloaded to the TV). If one removes the channel map, TV control through the MPI port returns but there is no publicly documented way to tell the TV that a particular channel is pro:idiom encrypted (easily handled through a channel map). LG says there are discrete codes that will do this but requires one to become a pro:idiom adopter and pay a license fee of $50k. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?... $50K TO DISCLOSE HOW TO TELL THEIR TV THAT THE DESIRED CHANNEL/STREAM IS PRO:IDIOM ENCRYPTED!?... GIVE ME A BREAK!!! WE'RE NOT WANTING TO ENCRYPT/DECRYPT PRO:IDIOM CONTENT, WE SIMPLY WANT TO TELL A PRO:IDIOM ENABLED LG TV TO TUNE TO A PARTICULAR CHANNEL AND HAVE IT WORK.

LG says they have over 50 adopters who have paid this fee. Let's see... that's $2.5 million for the privilege. I don't know about the rest of you but when a vendor creates a supposed "standard," aren't they supposed to let people know how to support that standard without bending them over along the way? I understand the concept of license fees... but this type of fee for this type of information is way over the top.

I can't imagine that anyone out there knows what to send to the MPI port on an LG commercial TV to have it tune to a particular channel and have the TV know that it's a pro:idiom encrypted stream... but you never know.

Come on LG universe out there, give me an answer. I triple-dog-dare you. :-)

Thanks.
