We are going with the 39" amazon fire tv from insignia that was mentioned in the post above a few.

Supposedly all buttons on the oem remote are wifi-direct except the power key, which is IR. Which gave hope that other commands were available via IR, and they were. As said the discretes are in the Harmony database.

I would bet the OEM remote uses Bluetooth, rather than WiFi.

If you really want discrete codes, , I'd consider this
[Link: amazon.com]

Its a refurb, but hey, its still way better than the Insignia.

I bought a 32" Insignia after putting up with a WBox POS TV for just less than 2 years- the WBox sucked in every way imaginable, and a few that can't be imagined. The warranty and exchange period is not one of them- I was able to return it for a full refund before the warranty was up. I then went to BB and found the one I bought for $65 less than the WBox and it's better in every way than the POS I returned. I have no problem with the picture or sound quality, but it's in a bedroom, so that's not the same as if it were in a primary viewing location.

just to be clear, regardless of Bluetooth & wifi, as long as Harmony has the codes, we can use them for IR control, correct?

Yes, as long as the TV responds to IR.

They can also analyze the commands for errors if the device doesn't respond correctly, add commands from hex (if that's the only format you might have) and add them to an account.

FWIW, the hub-based remotes use BT to communicate between the hub and remote, IP to connect the hub to the network and equipment and IP, IR and BT to control equipment. BTW- the Harmony hub for Elite/Pro can use BT to control AppleTV.
