Since Oppo is going away, I'm wondering which UHD Blu-Ray players have the cleanest on-screen GUI? I recently messed with a client-supplied Sony, and watching a disc is actually harder to make happen than finding a streaming app...which sucks, because all clients use disc players for is playing discs. Streaming services are always accessed via an AppleTV or Roku device. I'm assuming they are all terrible, but figured I would ask in case I'm wrong.

Somebody needs to introduce their SFP series designed simply to play BDs and play them well. That stands for "Stupid F*cking Player" because it won't have a single damn "smart" feature in it. No, not even whiffy for updating. Get up like a man and connect a cable to update!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

???
I am completely confused by your post about Sony. There is a disc icon, very visible to see, bottom right of the tiles. You select it, it plays disc. How much simpler can it be. Other than when you insert a disc, it automatically plays - which as far as I know all brands do that.

As far as clean, you can customize the tiles on the Sony to only have the ones you want. Or remove them all if you like. The only problem I have is not being able to customize the ones on the left. And remove the screen mirror and USB at the bottom right. That sucks.
But with all of them removed that you can, you only have the 9 tiles on the left and the 3 at the bottom right = play disc, USB, Screen mirror.

Which makes an area of tiles that are not "clean" as discussed.

How simpler? A client of mine has a couple of higher end Sony BDPlayers and they don't always return to disc. I've got macros in the remotes to have them play, and sometimes they don't. You know what they do? They go to that group of tiles that doesn't let the GUI appear clean.

Just have transport controls? I doubt it, but I'l look next time I'm there.

Of course, then there's the problem that I've programmed his streaming to work from there, not from the TV...

But with all of them removed that you can, you only have the 9 tiles on the left and the 3 at the bottom right = play disc, USB, Screen mirror.

If I follow your count right, you're saying that this is a clean appearance. The only things in addition to PLAY DISC are ELEVEN other buttons.

YOU KNOW!!!
When you have to wear adult diapers because you can't figure out how to use a toilet anymore, it is time to just give up.

Things can only be made so simple. Life is hard, even harder if...

Brad,
it really sounds like you must have HATED the Oppo way of doing things. I mean, so few buttons, only the ones that were really needed for playing discs, big blank spots all over the display... If not, why are you making such a strong case for all the GUI stuff that is extraneous to playing discs?

Like said before, who cares about the Gui!!!

To play a disc, hit eject, insert disc, close tray and it automatically plays. Ahh the wonders of life.

I can't cite the exact identification of the icon, but it's like this:
Turn the unit on, hit PLAY. An app starts because of which icon was highlighted when you hit PLAY.
When you STOP and navigate to the transport PLAY icon, you get PLAY, but it didn't come up when you turned on the player.

To play a disc,

navigate to where you have the choice "eject," then
hit eject, insert disc, close tray and it automatically plays. Ahh the wonders of life.

No. You don’t have to navigate to “Eject”.

The button is right beside the disc tray. It can’t possibly be easier unless someone else does it for you.
