BTW, another one that just came to mind (with the British mention above) that is particular good is:

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

Oh, and in a similar vein, a long time favorite of mine:

The Commitments

Oh, and another one whose name I can't remember for the life of me. It was set in Britain in the not too distant future, and was about raising children for their organs. It sounds horrific, but in actual fact it was a beautiful (though disturbing) movie. I was going to go do search but then I thought, no way am I going to go search for 'raising children for their organs' on the internet. I'd have men in sunglasses showing up tomorrow.

Actually, they reached young adulthood before being 'harvested' and not all of their organs at once, though eventually always one too many, and they were clones. It was about a group of them growing up together in a group home, coming of age, coming to understand what they were and what was going to happen to them, and so forth. It was really good.

Anyone know what the name of movie that was?

I saw it at the local theater too. It was the last movie I have seen in a public theater. ( I did watch a short documentary at the Grand Canyon in an Imax years after).

Being a two tour Vietnam Vet, I was laughing out loud in parts of Forrest Gump and people were turning around to stare at me. My wife asked me what was so funny and I told her, you had to be there to understand. I also grew up in the time the film represented, so to me it was a GREAT movie.

Reminds me of the joke, how many Vietnam vets does it take to change a lightbulb. You'd know if you were there.

Forrest Gump was great.

How about Hear no Evil, See no Evil.

Did anybody say The Three Amigos?

Wasn't that the plot in The Island?
Civil War reenactment is LARPing for people with no imagination.

Never Let Me Go - with Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley and Andrew Garfield (a film so unrelentingly depressing it ought to have a government health warning).

It's based on a novel by Kazuo Ishiguro, but it's very Wyndhamesque - which brings to mind "Village Of The Damned" (1960), which is based on John Wyndham's "The Midwich Cuckoos."

Very ordinary and in no way up to the original BBC tele-drama of the Karla Trilogy. While not technically a movie--in was never released theatrically--it is on DVD. If you have not seen it you should. Alec Guinness and a cast of European character actors that get in right in terms of look, feel and suspense. The remake is not bad. It's just not up to the original or the book. You miss the character detail, particularly the toll Smiley's wife's infidelity takes on his psychology. You don't see the moments of Smiley pouring over Goethe. I have an ancient VHS tape from the BBC and I bought the DVD from Amazon. Well worth the tariff.

On to a different thought: till someone above included The 39 Steps, not a single mention of Hitchcock. Not Psycho, not Torn Curtain, not Rebecca, not Vertico, not The Birds, not Notorious, not Rear Window, not Marnie, not North By Northwest, and NOT To Catch a Thief!

Thank you. Strangely, I thought Kiera was in it, so I looked at her filmography on IMDB but somehow missed it. I saw the title but I was sure it was something else so I didn't drill down into that one.

I thought it was a really beautiful movie, though it was very disturbing definitely.
