I want to have infrared control of my lights. Is there a particular module that is remote activated by my pronto that will turn my lamp on/off/dim. i have found tons of rf modules but I want to use an ir remote. I haven't worked with lighting before so any information would be handy. Thanks

I use a Lutron Spacer unit which has an IR remote so you can turn the light on, dim it or brighten it and when you turn it off and on again it adjusts to the last preset brightness setting.Go to the Lutron web site www.lutron.com.They have all kinds of units and supposedly can be controlled by universal remotes such as Pronto.

You may wish to pursue the honorable X-10 technology. Now so available as to be in local hardware stores. You can get IR receiver station for this technology, and is such that I use to control lights in my temple. You should be pleased with answers you are given now.

I have used both the Lutron and X10 and so far have leaned toward the Lutron. My reasons: The lutron can be programmed for 4 "scenes". These scenes are programmale levels, which can be set and controlled via remote. The X10 does not have this feature which to a point makes you guess (at macro). Also, here's a scenario:...You turn on a light via X10. Lets say you dim it to 40%. You then want to turn the light back to 100%...you would think you could tell the light to turn "on" but that doesn't work....you have to dim up until you get there OR turn the light off then turn it on.

Last but not least, the lutron would be cheaper. To control on light switch with x10, you need the wall switch and the IR to x10 box (IR543). Compare the price of that to the Lutron wall switch (retail about $100).
