What are you all using to secure the wires for IR Emitters that you stick on the components IR window?
Electrical tape seems to lose its holding value as the component heats up.
What looks cleanest? Any other tricks?

Or a small dab of clear silicone. Use tape to temporarily hold the flasher in place till the silicone sets.
We've used this method for a while now, and it works beautifully. Best part is, if the unit needs to be repaired, the flasher will pry off and not leave a mark.

fingernail adhesive works. in fact, there is a product out there that removes fingernail adhesive when needed. (clear, obviously) rumage around your girlfriend's purse. prepare with alcohol (at least a six pack).
many components like cable boxes, dss receivers, etc... have plastic panels that pop off very easily. ir emitters can be stowed inside the component to ensure that the emitter won't fall, wire be cut from custom shelves, and improve the aesthetic of the installation.

I don't think he's referring to the emitter itself, but the wire that's attached to it.
I've used electrical tape (3M, 33-series) for several years, and have never had it come off due to heat...

I take the case off and install them inside. Much cleaner and professional look.

I also remove the covers and install them inside. No more unnecessary service calls. Works great

I also install them inside the components -- but not all the time. I didn't mention it previously, because that's not what the poster was asking about :-) What looks cleanest? Any other tricks? Oops -- just re-read the question... Nevermind... :-) This message was edited by Tony Golden on 05/01/02 23:28.33.

Thanks for all the input.
My main question was holding on the wire that goes to the emitter end.
I will try some better electrical tape. I think we have some cheap stuff.
I also like the idea of putting the emitter inside if the components case comes off easily.
I also got another tip to use an additional cable from the connecting block to the component. It should have a male mini-jack on the connecting block end and a female end at the component. That way you can fix that cable to the rack and easily unplug and remove the component leaving the IR emitter attached to it. It saves the work of re-routing the IR emitter cable back through to the IR connecting block.

You may also want to try Speaker Crafts new IR emitters, which are placed into a docking station. They seem to work very well.
