I want to have something that I can keep track of the small stuff, like the drywall screws, the RJ45 keystone jacks and plugs. I hate getting to the job-site and needing 5 plates, but only having 4. Then logging to SnapAV's site and placing $25 order and paying $12 S/H.
I don't want to keep track of each F-81 connector; just estimating that I only have 15 in the tray, so I should order some.
So for me it's more of a need for a shopping or reminder list, than an inventory accounting software.

All you need for that is a misc. parts inventory list. You can break it down further if you want into a van list and a shop list. Stock a few of every part in the van, at least a weeks worth. Go over the van list at the end of the week and restock from the parts in the shop. Order the parts inventory for the shop when you can place a big order so you aren’t paying $12 shipping for $25 in parts.

WHOA! that is dumb perfect. If you have a PC that you keep on the van for 199 bucks and QB integration it almost doesnt make sense not to. I think that would pay for its self pretty dang quick!

Thanks for sharing!

No problem. The one that I linked to is $299 unless you found something different. (There is a home version which may be cheaper, but not sure what the difference is.)

Now at $199, that would be a different story. Would almost certainly get one for the van.

Also, I know that many label makers are able to print barcodes as well. I recently purchased this version: [Link: intelliscanner.com] but haven't tried out custom barcodes yet. I'm sure it'll work though, maybe a little trial and error to get the right kind that the hardware can read.

that was the one i was talking about for $199. Im having a really hard time finding the battery life for the $299. Have you had it for a few weeks? how well does it work?

I Know that I am late to the party but a while back I had the tech's start a itemized list of everything they used on a job. I would attached this to the final invoice and put it in the profit/analysis pile to be gutted later. I have since gone through this file and found out that We give way to much away for free. We have a misc. charge as well but on several accounts, we have gone way over what was charged to the customer. We are currently working first to clean up the front end of the sales. This would include our sales guys to check mark items needed for each job.

For an example: When you need a tv, there are a list of things next to the tv form you will need. Back box, mud rings, hdmi cables, rj-45 ends, inlet for power, power wire, bracket hardware, and so on. Same thing for All items. This check list has made us much for efficient on the front end. Therefore we now add a misc to what we may have forgotten. We must know how much per foot cable costs us, how much each connector cost us. I found on one job we did, We had $200.00 in misc and found that we used over 300.00 our cost on the job.
