I'm upgrading an existing Niles installation, adding another zone and trying to use some spare parts. Can I use a Xantech connecting block with Niles flashers and/or sensors? Tried Niles sensors fed into Xantech connecting block and in turn to Niles emitters (tried both blaster and micro types). Also tried direct feed into Marantz SR7200 (multi-room input). Is there some trick to this or are the systems incompatible?

I've mixed Niles and Xantech components on several occasions, with good results. The only issues to be aware of, are the "status feedback", which won't work between the two (I never cared about that, anyway), and the Niles "blaster" (IRC-1) won't work with the standard Xantech connecting blocks -- it requires an amplified signal.

I'm not familiar with the Marantz, but check Xantech's site, or call their Tech Support, to see if they have an adapter for it (794-00)...

As your pevious reply stated you must use an amplified connecting block because the voltages on the two systems are slightly different as a general rule i try not to mix the two.

In my experience an amplified connecting block (or Niles expansion unit) is only required for the IRC-1, which needs a higher output signal. The Niles mini emitters (IRC-2) work fine with the standard Xantech blocks, and most other components seem to be inter-changeable between the two brands.

If there is anything in your system that connects a Nile IR output to the chassis ground of the system, for instance running from a Niles output to a Lexicon preamp's IR in, then you must avoid doing the same thing with any Xantech you connect.
Xantech connects the ground of the IRs to the minus of the supply, while Niles does not. This became an issue for me when I tried to use one honking twelve volt regulated supply to run Niles along with some other 12 volt equipment (relays, a timer) and I made the mistake of grounding the ground.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
