I would like to aquire a notbook (laptop) for in the field programing of pronto remotes for the clients that are smart enough to buy one :). I won't need it for anything else, does any one know of a good place online to buy used computers? and what minumum specs would you recomend that it should have for this application. Thanx for the help.

ebay.

I used to have a Toshiba Satellite Pro. For some reason, even though I disassemble the keyboard, washed it and dried it several times, the root beer eventually killed the keyboard.

Rather than pay $125 for a keyboard, I got another Satellite Pro for $300. In fact, I bought two, one with about 800 mB HD, the other with 1.5 gB or so. It is still my main computer, with Pronto, Crestron, Quickbooks Pro, Word, AOL, Stewart Screen Assistant, JVC and Sony screen calculators........

and if you search Google for used Satellite Pros, you will find some internet dealers. I found one near me here in the Los Angeles area. In fact, they were the ones who would have gotten me the new keyboard, but they wanted around $450 for a Satellite Pro.

Happy hunting!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

You might save couple of bucks going to Ebay. However, keep in mind that this laptop is going to be an essential tool for your work. You might want to consider a more conventional place (i.e. COMPUSA, Dell, Compaq) for purchasing your laptop that will provide you with support if something goes wrong with your machine. Try getting support for something you got on Ebay.

In my opinion, you should stick with a mainstream machine like Dell for about $1500 to $2000.

$1500 is just too out of my price range right now. I think I will wait untill I can get a computer that I can call on tech support or a warrantee if needed rather than get a cheap one now. Thanks for the advice.
