Hey I am brand new to this stuff....

I have ordered a Sony STRDE875 AV receiver, which should arrive within the next two weeks. I am now looking at a compatible CD player to go with it. The Sony SCDXE670 SACD player looks pretty good, but...

The receiver has "Control A1". However the SACD player does not mention it has this feature. I want the receiver remote to control the basic play and search functions of the SACD player. Can it do this regardless of the "Control A1" stuff or not?

I'm trying to avoid a huge pile of incompatible remotes for each separate of my system, WITHOUT having to buy a Philips pronto remote etc.

Thanks for any help...

Yes, it will work with out the Control a cable. The purpose for that connection is kinda useless. If all your components had this connection, the units would sort of talk to themselves. Lets say you did have them all hooked up, and told the dvd player to play, the Tv would turn on and go to component video, the receiver would turn on and go to dvd...stuff like that. Mind you, you could get a remote that can do all that (and more)...IE don't worry about it!

yes the will talk, albiet not to themselves as Jose I think misstyped but rather to eachother. This set up is shakey at best. It will work but you are victim to owning Sony for ALL of your components and you have to hook them up exactly as they want you to ie no optical connection with your CD player if your reciever doesn't have an optical connection specifically for CD. A good remote should handle the basic funtions for all of your stuff especailly since it sounds like your SACD is going to be Sony any way.

I'm only getting the Sony CD player beacause it matches the shape and colour of the receiver. I have no plans to buy other stuff...

Whilst checking the progress of my receiver's delivery, the dealer told me they were selling off their Marantz RC1200 remotes for £30 (about $50).

Are these remotes out of date or something? Is it worth getting one?

I current plan is to get a Marantz remote only if the CD player can't be controlled by the receiver remote. Good idea, yes?
