Due to delirium I gave up on finishing a project today (one day deadline). I was sooooooo close though. Im sure I just missed something easy.

Anyways.....I couldnt get the 232c commands to work. I followed the manual. The projector is the Panasonic PTFW300. Control: RTI RK3V and ZRP6. Using the 232 over CAT5 cable with a premade (running low on time) 25 ft cable. Here is the way I have the strings laid out:

Power On:
STXPONETX

Input:
STXIIS:RG1ETX

I also tried without the STX and ETX.

Here is the manual (check page 53):

I have a feeling I either need to add a "starter" such as "/" or maybe it requires null modem adapter.

Like I said this was almost 1am and about 16 hours into the day so I could be overlooking something.

Time to get some rest!

Thanks for the help.

STX and ETX refer to start transmission and end transmission. Not what you actually put in the string. Notice the 02h below this but I'm not sure if \x02 is the hex conversion.

This is what I had for power on \x02PON\x03 for the Panasonic PTAE3000U. It should be the same code for you model.

Drewski-

any idea what the \x03 designates in this sequence? Is it a direct input assignment?

What determines the start and end transmission keys? Control manufacture or is it standard for Panasonic to use "\" ? If so, why didnt they just give a simple example like this in their manual?

STX (Start Transmission) and ETX (End Transmission) are the Hex byte 02 and 03. The \x is shorthand for what follows is a Hex byte. It looks like Integration Designer uses this form of shorthand. So a input command would look like \x02IIS:VID\x03

Looked up and responding...We had to use IR as the procesor was a RP-1 and option for 232 wasnt there on this one for me

But the \x02PON\x03 looks right

DVI should be \x02IIS:DVI\x03

I'm pretty sure it's no. How you can tell is look up the pin configuration of the projector and the pin configuration of the XP8. What you have to make sure is if pin 2 on the XP8 is transmit then pin 2 on the projector must be the receiving pin. That is straight through. If pin 2 is transmit on both devices they can't talk to each other. When terminating the RJ45 end you can always switch the wires around so you don't have to use a null modem adapter.

To answer your earlier question about \x02. I believe it's just how some manufacturers do it. There is no reason other than that's what there protocol is. Yeah, the manual should really give an example!

BTW, Panasonic projectors are in the newest master list in ID8.
