Anyone have a list of the serial commands or the serial protocol for the Toshiba HD-XA2?

Thanks.

The protocol document supplied with the Crestron module for the XA1 has the same function table commands as the document supplied by AMX with their module for the XA2. The commands are all the same but the documentation supplied by AMX is a little more complete and is supplied as a word document instead of a pdf. To make a long story short both units will respond to the same serial strings.

Has anyone gotten these codes to work for the HD-XA2? I've been trying to control it with a Pronto Pro + RFX9600 and can't get it to function at all. The documentation lists this as the code for Play:

0x45,0xB5,0x15,0xEA

The hex code blank in the Pronto Edit software does not allow anything other than hex, so, I've tried:

04 50 B5 01 50 EA

and

45 B5 15 EA

Neither works. I've also tried changing pins 2 & 3 both ways. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Instead of :
45 B5 15 EA
Try sending the following command for play:
45 B5 15 00

I was looking in crestron's module and I don't see that EA is ever being generated even though those last two bytes of the string are mentioned in the protocol as function reversals. It does however, generate 00 for all commands as the last two bytes. Further, the protocol also does not explain why the function reversal as shown in the string example for pause is 00 while for play it is EA nor does it explain what the function reversal would be for the rest of the commands.

Thanks for the thoughts, Bruce. Unfortunately, replacing the reversal function with 00 did not resolve the problem. I'll post again if I find a solution.

I will be onsite in the next couple of days. I will see what the exact string is that is being sent from the module and let you know.

I was checking the module and it seems that there is some check sum action going on which is not explained at all in the protocol document there is only a mention of function reversal code. There is some most significant byte/ least significant byte things going on and I am going to have to sit down and figure it out. The module is taking values and building strings based on these values plus a checksum. When I watch the port in test manager when the play button is pressed the following string is shown: E[B5h][15h][EAh]
pause shows: E[B5h][00h][FFh]
stop shows: E[B5h][14h][EBh]
it seems that the protocol document is assuming some very deep knowledge in the protocol and terminologies

Alan?

I will keep plugging away at it, buy Crestron and it works no problem :)

Thanks for the detailed response, Bruce. We're actually an AMX shop. We thought we'd try the Pronto before the AMX, assuming it would be quicker and easier. HA!

Anywho, I've uploaded a spreadsheet that calculates the reversal functions for each function to this address:

The h's in the codes you listed seem very inconsistent. Is it possible you're missing some h's?

I wrote to Toshiba support about this today. They've been less than helpful and considerably less than prompt in the past. Will let you know if anything comes of it.

Yeah I left out a few h's so I edited the post. We do amx as well and when I tried deciphering with them it was'nt much help. They do have a duet module that is written in java but I nor the person at amx was able to get much from the module as java is still new to me. If you have an access controller the java module is not going to work. The cable is however 2,3, crossed over 9600 8,1,n
