I've used the IR4PS3 for some time and it's a great product that gives me full control of the PS3 with either a Harmony or other universal remote, unlike the new harmony PS3 adapter only works with the harmony remotes. Ben, the IR4PS3 maker, has been very helpful when I've needed support and very responsive to email.
There are a couple of fully assembled IR4PS3 on ebay for those looking.

Mines been great too and I was wondering if the logitech device is any better in any way? Sometimes when searching scenes using fast forwarding, reversing, pause etc the PS3 locks up and I have to power it off and on to recover it. I am not sure what causes this and if I am the only one? It could be the PS3 or IR4PS3 or the combination??

The logitech one is no better. Technically it's lower featured, and uses a troublesome IR protocol to top it off.
Re the PS3 "locking up" - I've found this happens with all controllers, even the original Sony BD remote. Technically it generally no longer accepts commands from the BD remote, but continues to work via other control methods. I've found this happens most often when I send a lot of commands while it's busy doing something else.
Remember the IR4PS3 uses the original Sony bluetooth module. All it's doing is emulating button presses - it's not doing anything with the actual communications with the PS3.
