Hello, I am now using a “new” TSU9800 for everyday use and want to preserve it as long as I can. The original batteries from 2010 amazingly worked well keeping it running for many hours but I have replaced them for safety’s sake.

My question is this; the screen is backlit using a CCFL tube light and the TFT used (LG LB064V02) has an official half-life (to 50% brightness) of 20,000 hours, so pretty long.

However, in reality it could be less depending on how it is used. So is it better to keep the screen on for say six hours a day, (ProntoScript works fine when left on specific page whilst using the TSU), or to leave it set to a screen timeout of say 120 seconds whereby the screen turns on and off very regularly when used (this may also shorten its life due to lamp strike voltages)? My TSU9800 is permanently powered up (docked).

Additionally I read that running CCFL backlights at full brightness shortens their life but that running them at too low a brightness also shortens their life.

Does anyone have long term experience of screen brightness over a longer usage period??

Any insight would be most welcome.
