What is the best model video sensor to use for the RFX-9600/TSU9600? I understand that the RFX unit does not come with video sensors, so I was wondering if anyone could reccomend a good model to use that is proven reliable.

Thanks

Vincent,

Please search for +Power +Sense +Video for last 1 year in this forum and you'll find some answers.

I've done that and I've found a couple of video sensors that might possibly be made to work, but I still haven't found a post where someone has successfully connected a video sense module to the back of an RFX9600.

I don't understand why you persist in providing obtuse replies to honest questions. You are clearly very kowledgeable but at the same time seem unwilling to help people who are asking questions that haven't actually been answered yet. If you don't know the answer then why bother to post, especially if your "self help" suggestion ends in a dead end?

[Link: smarthome.com] might possibly be made to work but if I understand how it is wired it will need to draw power from the 5V output in order to work and also switch 5V. Not living in the US I'm not in the position to pick one up cheaply and attach a multimeter to establish how it works.

Edit: I've done some further reading, and the two video sense devices suggested work by sending IR TTL to a further control module so aren't particularly appropriate for use with the Pronto. I've emailed Philips to see if they can suggest a product that is known to work. One of my applications is a digital set top box which has a built in PVR so power sense is not an option.

Tim. Thank you very much for posting the additional information. I'd like to understand better your post above, especially the "self help" part.

My intentions were honorable and I am a bit offended by your response. Sometimes, I'll run a search, recalling a thread I might have read before and will post with a suggestion of search topics I used. I do try to be helpful and assist others. I never intend to be an @ss and apologize if it comes across that way. So, if you'd care to discuss either in this post or offline via email, please do as my intention was not to offend anyone.

Haven't tried these yet, but plan on ordering several to try

[Link: xantech.com]

Hope to use the CBCSM1 in combination with the CSM1 to control my DVR/Sat rcvr which doesn't have discrete IR commands.

There are some other interesting sensors to use in combination with the CBCSM1

Lyndell,

I apologise. I saw two posts from you in a couple of days that could have been considered obtuse, but I've since seen a lot more of your contributions which are completely the opposite and more informative than most. I jumped to the wrong conclusion and put my foot in my mouth.

Thanks Brian, that looks exactly what I'm looking for. I wonder if the 12V supply is a constant output or if it is an alternative input method. I'm guessing the former. When do you plan on testing them? I'm not sure whether I can wait!

The Xantech stuff I plan to order tomorrow, the issue for me seems to be getting the RFX9600. Its been on order now for a little over a week. Currently using the RFX9400 but got sick of not being able to accurately control the sat rcvr. Got my fingers X'd hoping this will solve the problem.

I seem to recall a post where someone was dangling a 12VDC adapater off the back of a cable box and that works just fine. I think the trigger voltage on Power Sense is +5V but anything between 5V and 12V should work.

I wish, unfortunately there is no accessory outlet on the the sat rcvr, and the darn thing puts out a video signal when its off displaying the providers logo, go figure.

Iam certainly open to any and all suggestions

Some cable boxes I've seen offer a 12V trigger out or spdif coaxial audio. Trigger will surely work but maybe you could do something with the coaxial audio. At least if the unit is not muted that might work. Not sure if there's a sensor out there for this though.

Hi all of you,

The video sensor question is really a hot item, I think.
As far as I know the Xantech modules are quit expensive here in the Netherlands and hard to get.
Very interesting to know your experiences with the modules, Brian.
Especailly Lyndel 's contribution to this site is very valuable, thanks Lyndel! (has to be said)

No such luck having a trigger either, they made it as hard and as expensive as they could.... for me. I ordered several different sensors to try out, video, power diff, and an interesting one a light sensor that fits on the equipment like an emitter over an LED that comes on during the ON condition(advertised also to sense sun or room light). Think I will add an audio sensor to my order, if its not to late. Will post results when I get all the gear. Unfortuantely none of this stuff is cheap.

I think I'm going to have to get a friend in the US to buy the Xantech stuff for me. I get the impression that we will pay more than double in Europe. I've got loads of 12V adapters (from old Prontos) so that won't be an issue.

The Lumagen stuff is quite resonable - by the time you take into account shipping, import duties, and taxes the price in the UK is about right. It still works out at $5,500 though!

Hurry up Brian we're all waiting...

Tim
