I'm having difficulty with a firmware update.

Tried PEP2 Extender Discovery Tool but it is not finding the extender on the network (extender is connected to network switch, config mode 3).

I can open the extender web UI configuration tool and it reports v1.0.33. I have downloaded the extender RFX firmware updater zip file from RC and saved it to the PC. I select this file in the firmware updater and choose UPDATE however after a few seconds the configuration tool reports "This firmware update file is not valid"

What am I doing wrong here?

With later versions of the firmware you need to extract the contents of the zip file first. Pointing to the actual zip file won't work as was the case with some of the earlier firmware updates.

Thanks, I had already tried the bin file but without success...the unzipped files are:
parts.config
rootfs-1.4.7.jffs2
sndr-1.4.7.bin
zlimage-1.4.7
zlimage-fu-1.4.7

p.s. another whacky issue I'm having is in my XCF. I'm pointing the Pronto at a network player at 10.1.1.21, but instead it is controlling the player at 10.1.1.20. I have checked the project file 1000 times and the parameter for controlling the player is definitely configured for 10.1.1.21.

The configuration PC however does have some issues, it won't boot from the HDD, I need to boot it from the instal CD. However PEP2 seems to behaving entirely normally, the project saves normally, downloads to the Pronto normally, except for some inexplicable reason it is controlling the wrong network player.

Problem solved.

Updating from v1.0.33 to v1.4.7 doesn't work.

Updating from v1.0.33 to v1.1.36 works.

Updating from v1.1.36 to v1.4.7 works.

In other words, it seems you need to do each extender firmware update in order, you can't skip an update.

p.s. still haven't solved the player control problem

Cannot help with Network Player if don't know what it is. ;-)

Although this post was made more than a decade a go, I am having the same problem. My issue now is I can no longer find v1.1.36 that will download anywhere on this site to make the sequence of firmware updates needed to bring my RFX9600 to v1.4.7. If anyone has v1.1.36 uploading it to active files would be great. Thanks

I see it in the older firmware section. See:

I also have a copy in my PC, in case you have an issue with the above.
