Hi All,

I have had several programmable universal remotes in my past. Logitech of course, Marantz RC9500 (my favorite). My latest is Sofabaton, not impressed. So I went down the URC rabbit hole, or so it seems. I purchased an MX-790 and got the software installed. Programming is going okay, but I have a couple of questions.

1. Concept: I am accustomed to the idea where you pick an activity and then the hard buttons changed function based on the device(s) of the activity. This seems not to be the case, or am I missing something?? The manuals proved to be about as useful as a hole in the head.

2. Images: It seems the only way is to use a command line utility to perform changing the image libraries?? This seems archaic and there has to be a better way. I have tried this method and I just get an error.

The MX790 replaced the MX780. Programing is almost identical.

you can add graphics to the folders that contain the .vfd files. just place them in that folder and they will show up as graphics when adding devices. I usually place mine in the Alpha folder since that's the default folder that shows up.

to change backgrounds and other elements, you would have to modify the .vfd file. though I think I tried that on the mx780 awhile ago and couldn't make that work. those graphics might be hard coded into the remote itself and are unable to be changed. not 100 percent on that.

Thanks for the info on the images. I will give that a try. The programming video was only marginally helpful, most of that I had figured out, and the model he is programming with is higher than the MX-790, so some of the features in the software are not available to me.

Are there standardized image sizes I need to adhere to??

looking through the mx790 folder, i see an icon in there that is 110x73 named MainPress00.png so i'd assume that's the dimension you'd want to go with.
