I picked up a new in box Mx-990 off ebay this week. I have a MX-780 so am familiar with using Complete Control. I tried to program with Complete Control and it won't connect. The remote chimes when I plug it in with the USB and shows the charging indicator. However it should show up in the list of HID devices in device manager when I plug it in but it doesn't. I tried multiple USB cables on 3 different PCs with no luck but my MX780 showed up on all three.

Any suggestions or should I start talking to the seller about a refund.

Thanks for any help.

Unplug then remove battery and wait 3 minutes.

Thanks, I tried removing the battery, and all the things other URC mentions here but no luck:

https://urcfaq.knowledgeowl.com/help/cant-connect-or-download-mx-780-mx-790-mx-890-and-mx-990

I also unsuccessfully tried it on two more PCs running W10 including an older one that only has USB 2 ports since URC mentioned that might be a solution too. I will try it at my local URC dealer today as I know he sells 990s.

I also tried the factory reset mentioned here on the forum where you hold on and mute while inserting the battery. This didn't seem to do anything after rebooting as it just goes back to what I assume is the default screen with a number of device icons that don't do anything, so perhaps the remote is already reset. In any case it still doesn't show up in device manager as a device.

I happen to have an MX-990 laying around, so I put the battery in it and connected to my computer. I can tell you for 100% fact, it does NOT show up in device manager.

Have you actually tried to send a quick test file to the remote yet?

My local dealer couldn't connect to it either so it went back to the seller. He is giving me a great deal on a new remote so now I just need to decide which one to get.

Did you disconnect the USB cable from the PC before removing and re-installing the battery?

I also get the device not recognized occasionally and removing and re-installing the battery always works, but you need to disconnect the cable from the PC before doing so. No need to wait, just remove and re-install right away, then reconnect the cable.

Yeah, we tried everything. It would charge but not connect to the PC. It wouldn't even show up in device manager. It went back to the seller

i just ran into a situation today where an installer tried a usb cable that was a charging cable only.  once he had one that had the data conductors as well, it connected without an issue.

Yeah, I tried multiple USB cables as did my dealer. Too bad, it was new in an open box and a great deal. My dealer is going to give me a great price on either an MX-990, an MX-4000, or an MX-1400 (though I think I am passing on the 1400 due to no number pad). Just need to play with them in CCP and make a decision.

Brad, It should show up in device manager under the human interface devices. My dealer's demo 990 showed up there as expected. Regardless, neither of us were able to connect to it with CCP to upload or download data.

I just tried an MX990, 890, and a 790. Watching the Device Manager screen, I see where some USB devices are popping up with each one. But they are just generic labeled, nothing about URC or MX anything.
So it does show when they are connected but it's mixed in with a bunch of other USB devices non-descript.

Windows 10 Pro.
