Hello All, I've been running my system using an Ipad and a MRX-2. I wanted to add a MX 780 to the system, but when I go to program the devices, I can't get the serial option (as well as the IP option) when I get to the database programming. I can only access IR data. Did I do something wrong when I added the MX-780, did I miss a step, or is this part of the new URC protocols and I can only have serial data to maintain what I already had? Thanks as usual. Derek

the serial option with the mrx2, only works with network interfaces. the mx780 is RF and IR only.So you'll only find the option when using an MX5000, MX6000, android/ios app, or the KP4000.

One more thing, will probably order a MX-5000 (so expensive though), I won't need any sort of other authentication/certification like I needed for the IPad will I? Just thought I'd make sure before I ordered.

Since that piece of software was discontinued with older versions of Windows, Microsoft doesn't officially support it on W8 and above. There are very lengthy threads here on this forum board, describing all the workarounds you are going to have to do. And a bit of luck.

Thank you Brad. I'm running a pretty old version of Windows on that laptop, so I might just get lucky here. Could you recommend a appropriate search term to get to those threads? Thx -Derek

Just do a search for the MX-5000 or MX-6000, that should bring up a list with several threads focusing on the connectivity issues. Use search option #3 in the list of searches on this forum.

Yeah, you're right. Got really excited about this when I programmed it (it's set up almost perfect to my needs), but I'm struggling to download this into the remote, can't even get the remote to pair with my wifi. Maybe I suck at search engines, but I'm not finding what I need in the threads. Oh well, might go back to my MSC 400 and a MX-780. Appreciate all the help though.

try creating a 2.4GHz ssid to connect to. if you have a combined 2.4/5GHz ssid, it probably doesn't like that. here's troubleshooting instructions to get the USB connected. [Link: urcfaq.knowledgeowl.com]
