Screens removed and displayed further down after I received my MX-4000 :-)

If you're willing to make your own graphics, you could put hundreds of buttons per screen, actually. Even with the two defined template geometries, you could still space the buttons closer together than the snap points we defined. Remember, we use the same Complete Control editor to design the templates that you use to program with, so there's nothing we did that you can't do better suited to you if you're dedicated to it. You can even edit the Font.ini file to have the editor automatically apply your desired font, size, color, alignment, and position when you drag in a button from a gallery you created.

Are there snap points on the layout editor screens? I only see them on the device editor.

Never mind, I found the alt-s/alt d to turn them on and off. Now if there was only a way to add more snap points.

It's in the Right-Click menu for any button, but you can also just press ALT+G to open the Edit Snap Points window. It's relatively self-explanatory. Other than the Font.INI file (which is a text file you can easily edit in NotePad), every tool we use to build our templates is also available to you in the Complete Control Editor.

Have fun!

Two questions:

Does anyone know how to access the settings menu on the MX-4000? URC hasn't posted the user manual for the mx-4000 and it doesn't work like the total control version (swipe down from the top).

What should happen when I select the jump style in the jump dialog. The options imply some animation (fly from left, fly from right etc.) but nothing seems to change regardless of the selection. The next screen just appears.

Thanks for any help!

Hold down both Select (OK) and Main for five seconds to get to Settings.

I'll let the team know what you mentioned about page transitions. For engineering reasons, that function has traditionally worked for some remotes and not for others, and I'm not sure if the 4000 is meant to have the animated transitions or not.

Darnitol,

Thanks, that worked to get into the settings.

Let me know about the page transitions, thought that is not a big deal.

Do you know if there is any documentation on the Alexa integration as to what you can do with it as relates to the remote? For example, can I ask Alexa to "Watch Netfilx" and connect that to macros for that activity? My dealer and I looked on the dealer portal and didn't see anything obvious, at least on the MX4000 pages.

Thanks again for your help!

Honestly I don't. I do product design and of course I use them, but anything having to do with documentation, training, or the website is all done in other departments. At the very least, I do know that you'll need URC's Alexa Skill added to your Alexa account. Everything the remote does communicates with that Skill, which is how Amazon keeps Alexa totally secure, since essentially, an Alexa Skill "asks" Alexa to do things, then Alexa parses the requests and only handles ones that fully meet Amazon's (very, very) strict security requirements. Sounds like your dealer might be mostly a Total Control dealer. If he does a little digging, I'm pretty sure he can get the info you need. So keep supporting your URC dealer and installer!

Thanks!. He sells both, Total Control and Complete Control. He has been selling the MX-1400 and the TRC-1480, but hasn't done anything with Alexa for either of them. I will see if he can find anything on the TRC side.

Edited after I received my MX-4000. I've been having a lot of fun designing my device pages. I don't use the snap points for my unusual button designs.

I am liking my mx4000 so far. I am still not 100% sold on the tabletop style vs a wand for the home theater but so far, the remote is performing very well.

URC categorizes it as "handheld", maybe you just need more practice :-). Maybe "lapheld"?

Thought I would add a few comments about the remote itself.

The MX4000 feels good in the hands, there aren't any sharp edges and the sides where your hand rest are textured nicely and provide good grip. The volume and channel rocker on the remote could be a bit taller as I find myself having to hunt a bit to find them in the dark, but I am sure I will get used to it.

Battery life so far has been good. I use it mostly in the evenings, but I think I am going on 5+ days since it has been charged. The IR emitters are powerful, so you don't have to be careful about pointing it at specific components. The screen looks great and is responsive to touch actions, and moves to new screens are fast. One thing to note, the screen doesn't seem to support swiping, so you have to use the hard buttons to move between pages in a device unless you add an onscreen UI element to do that. Swipe would be nice to have if possible.

If you are used to programming in CCP, setting up the MX 4000 is very straight forward. The set of graphics and icons that come with CCP are nice and there are expansion packs available on the dealer portal. I am sure that someone who is experienced in Photoshop could come up with some really cool graphics for the MX4000 like we saw back in the MX3000 contests. I have not played with the mic functionality including Alexa yet but do plan to.

Thanks for the excellent feedback, Dennis! Mine just shipped and hopefully should be here for the week-end. I use Adobe Fireworks to do my custom button images. Myself I have no plans for Alexa :-). Too bad I can't use that Alexa button for something else!
OTOH, I found you can use the hard Left Screen / Main / Right Screen buttons per device to play a macro.

I'll let you know Saturday how the 990 compares to the 4000 :-)
