Hi all,
I am experiencing a nightmare with a discrete IR code spreadsheet from Sony custom Installer guys. Great folks...

I'll say up front, it is not with a URC remote BUT the Sony custom installer guys said they have had calls from installers having issues with URC remotes. Just a long shot someone has any info.

The Sony-supplied spreadsheet is not for the brand new Sony STR-AX5000es. It is a 10-year old code set from the earlier Sony ES line. They tell me it will still work but I am not seeing that at all.

Unless I am losing my marbles...

Any help appreciated...Thx DD

Were you able to get the new Sony Receiver discrete codes working? I am looking to upgrade to a STR-AZ5000ES and was hoping I wouldn't have too much work to do on my remote.

I have a STR-DA6400ES (2008) working perfectly in three zones on JP1 remotes. I haven't done any significant JP1 Remote Master/IR.exe work in years and basically have to relearn it (and update Java) any time I have to touch it.

I was concerned a major equipment update would be beyond the the UEI/JP1 system today but if the codes are truly backward compatible I may give it a go.

Hi - After much effort and time, I sort of determined that about 80% of the prev model discrete codes are for functions which do not exist in the new AZ model. Some of them do work, some do different things than their name.

It appears Sony is moving toward using your phone or tablet for some functions. It is actually easier than trying to do it thru IR codes. You can do multi zone stuff ok. I use Zone 2 from my custom remote which has a color screen. the remote. I have it working ok with I'm not familiar with JP1 nor how it is programmed.

However, the basics for IR can be achieved. I learned all the functions from the provided remote and I use them in my Nevo Q50 remote. I can do most everything with the learned IR codes and using a handful of the discrete codes.

The AZ5000 and I believe the other two models in the new line also have a nice gui on the tv screen. Sort of a "home" approach where you can go to any function function such as Watch TV, USB, Play music, watch movie, etc.

So, it is sort of a hybrid receiver allowing IR functions and phone functions for different audiences. Actually, they did a nice job on the phone app.

I do like the receiver a lot. The sound functions are very interesting and quite different form the other receivers. The only thing I dislike is the way the volume ramping works from the remote. Sony should address this.

Dave, thanks for the detailed response. I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the new Sony receiver. Any chance to can point me to the Sony spreadsheet, its probably more up to date than the data I have from 2008.
