There two codes for the current Directv receivers, 173 matches 00001 in the receiver, and 193 that matches codeset 00002. No reason to look for model #, since all receivers use the same codeset since 2006.

Gee I hate asking a dumb question but, how do I tell which codeset this receiver is using, 00001 or 00002? Thanks for your patience and Merry Christmas!

You take the white directv remote and do the following:

1. with it on the directv device
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
3. enter 0 0 0 0 1

See if it still controls the receiver, if not, then try 00002. If that doesn't control your receiver, then the hr34 is probably in RF mode, then an aftermarket remote like the mx-3000 can't control it until its back in IR mode.
