Hi Guys,

If there's a thread already on this let me know and sorry for the dupe. Appreciate any help in figuring out how to make MX-980 work with DirectTV's HD-DVR's model HR34-700? The URC database does not have the model listed...and that's odd. I tried different IR code set even HR20-200 and nothing happens. And secondly I tried learning the code from the DVR and 980 is not picking up or responding. Never happened before with other components...what's so special about DirectTV's server remote? This is the whole genie setup.

Thx.

use codeset 173 and make sure that the receiver isn't programmed for RF or an alternate codeset.

Duct Tape....I tried that earlier when I read an earlier post and almost all the code sets in the database for DirectTV HD-DVR and it didn't work. I'll check again. Thx. I called URC support and they were a bit surprised that they didn't have the code set already...and he said that it's likely a rolling code and that makes teaching the remote a big tricky.....and to use Learn 1 and 2 to see if it works. Planning to try it in a few.

Got it...phew...Duct Tape you gave me some insight after mentioning to revisit code set 173. Thx. Interesting that the power on/off is a toggle IR code of 237 on this DirectTV remote and that you need to make it work with your rules. Default IR code of 173 power-off that comes with code set 173 doesn't work for HR34-700 server. Copy the Power On code to the Power Off code and your rules will handle it right. IR & Rf works perfectly for this server. Hopefully this will help someone. It was bugging the crap out of me since yesterday. Happy camper now. ;-) Cheers.

It has been working fine with mine for almost a year. I didn't even need to reprogram the remote when I upgraded from an HR24 to the HR34. Not sure why yours was screwy.

Hmm...interesting....it refuses to work on mine. I had to use code 237. I'll have to check what HR24 uses. Thx.

I've found newer boxes have not changed any codes except for discrete power. I've always found that in a newer code set - don't have my laptop open now but when the customer calls and says he got a new box and everything works but power - its always gotten fixed.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Within the last few weeks I programmed a MX-1200 with a HR-34 and used an older code set (can't remember which - laptop not open, probably HR22) and had no problems.

Bubby...can you pls check your IR code and tell me which one it is for your on and off power is?
Tom or FP...do let me know what IR code is also. I tried the HR24 one of code 236 and it didn't work. How does one know from the IR database which one would be a newer code set besides model #s? Currently it is 237 for me that works for both. Thx.

Codes 173 & 237 both match directv codeset 00001, code 237 doesn't have discrete commands at all, neither does 173 on the ON & OFF keys, but does have them on page two of lcd/led screen.

Wonder why that 173 wouldn't work with MX-980 and MRF-260 base.

Thanks Edmund. True, no discrete commands for both on the ON & OFF keys and that sucks. I have to work with toggling 237 code and change the default Repeat numbers to make it work right.
