I'm a consumer looking into getting a TV. I haven't selected a dealer yet (I'm receiving bids now) but the requirements for this TV are pretty basic (HD and speakers, no internet, 3D, etc.)

TCL (relabeled as Berkshire) has come up as one option for the space I'm putting the TV in (it's width constrained) but I don't know how useful TCLs codes are.

Any advice? From my barely educated consumer standpoint, I think I'd need Power On, Power Off, Volume Up, Volume Down, Mute, and maybe a code to switch to HDMI 1 (there will only be 1 input connected to the TV.)

If TCL is out, what brands are generally better to go with for URC remotes?

there is one set of codes listed for TCL in the URC database.  the list doesn't contain any discrete codes.

Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, LG all have discrete codes (at least on the better models) and are easy to control.
