I got to check out the upcoming MX-5000 today. It's being described as "a hard button MX-6000". It's a wand-style remote with a color touch screen, rather than a soft button LCD like the MX-980. However, there are no numeric hard buttons. The overall styling is very much like the MX-6000, but the buttons are clear and rounded. I'm sure those who have enjoyed the URC line will like this remote as well.
There's talk of some other cool things on the horizon: 2-way rs-232, new base stations and an in-wall touch screen control. I'm not going to give too much away, because I don't know how far away any of these products are.
Thank you, Damon DG Control Systems Consultant & NY Custom Installations

The MX-5000 looks like it will be a nice fit between the MX-3000 and 6000, price-wise. Good option for those Like myself) who want more buttons.
There's also a Zigbee remote and base station coming.

It's still a long time to CEDIA. I would not hold my breath of anything.
Let's have the R&D department at URC work everything out, we will see it at CEDIA then we will wait 6 months to get it.

Read the article on the MX-5000. It mentions 2-way RS232 and seems to suggest that the MX-5000 will include this. How's that possible in July, the shipping date which was mentioned, without a 2-way enabled processor? I'm assuming the MSC-400 can't be updated to 2-way. Is the 2-way functionality possible with the MX-5000 but something that won't be enabled at first shipment but will have to wait for a new 2-way enabled processor? What about the MX-6000? I wonder if it will eventually be able to do 2-way RS232.

Maybe that is what the MSC-500 is all about. It's in the programming manual for the MSC-400 (accidentally or not) in a picture).

For a larger picture of the MX-5000, go to their press release here or just click here and zoom in. I'll be surprised if this is available in July, but you never know. I expect to see the other components like the MRX-1 at CEDIA. I'd expect a price tag of around $1100-1200 for the MX-5000. As a button person, it looks like a touchscreen I might actually use. ;-) Mike

The two way functionality on this at the time of release is primarily the same stuff as the MX6000. It's got two way on the iPod, using the PSX1 dock, as well as iTunes and Media Center via the Autonomic modules, as well as the standard internet stuff, like weather, and stock tickers. It also currently has a few other features that are being worked out that should be available on release that will rely on feedback via the RS232 ports and will work with the existing MSC400's. The MSC-500 is what the MSC-400 was originally, only it had cat5 ports on the back to support single-gang inwall keypads (essentially a 900 in-wall) which were scrapped. It's not likely that we'll ever see a product called the MSC 500 come to market.

I inherited an MX-5000 and want to integrate it into my current system. I have radiora 2 lighting as well as a nuvo mps4 (as well as the usual home theater stuff). I have several MX980's and an msc400 that I've programmed myself using CCP. This is the first IP 2-way remote I've tried to program. It looks like there is some sort of downloadable module for the nuvo to allow for direct IP control ... how can I access the module (I do not have access to the urc control room)? Also, is there a radiora2 module as well? My current mx980 uses the msc400 serial connection and I've set up phantom buttons in the lutron software, but it'd be neat to use a 2-way IP interface with the mx5000 (much like the iPad lutron app) Thanks!
