Being a brand new MX-810 user, I figured I'd follow the recommended order in the Wizard, at least the first time through.

The problem is, now that I'm mostly finished, I don't like the order in which the activities are shown in the home activities page. The ability to rearrange buttons and icons in the tune-up section seems to apply to every page except home activities and devices pages.

I'm sure I'm missing something very obvious here. Could someone give me a hint.

Or (ugh) if the only answer is to cancel the activities and re-enter them in a different order, could someone tell me how the order maps to the 6 cells of the home screen? (It's a pretty simple system, so re-do's aren't too scary.)

No, you don't have to do it all again. You can rearrange in Customization. Click Next and select either devices or activities on the left.

You must have a different version of the software than I do. My "customization" page only deals with setting color themes. Clicking on Devices or Activities shows that page, but there doesn't seem to be any way to drag the icons or otherwise change them.

This is the automatic updating software that I got with putchase from Surf Remotes. I the version from the URC website different?

the software is all the same. there is only one version. you just are not in the correct place. you can drag the icons in "customization" and you can rearrange them in tune up too. later.

OK, I finally got it. The software really is infuriating. Nowhere does it tell you to keep clicking "Next" to find new functions. Without documentation (other than what you can find here), it's a real adventure.

For the benefit of people searching on this problem years from now: After the first customization screen, which only covers color schemes, click "next" and then - - surprise! - - there's a screen that lets you rearrange your device and activity home screens.

this URC remote was not meant to be programmed by the end user. so, we get no manuals or how to with it. after playing around with the Wizard for about two weeks i finally feel like i have a good handle on it. good luck.

I don't understand why programmers get so upset about this Wizard software. You knew what your getting into when they made the announcement? I actually really like the software now that they fixed the "favorite icon" placement. It's a brief learning curve, just embrace it now.

Personally, I found the Pronto software to have an easier learning curve than the 810's software. For instance, the Squeeze Box is located in an area I found odd. There's no way to search for this manufacturer (that I know of, anyway), and learning the buttons on your own or importing them doesn't work. If you add a new device and go to program the device, the software doesn't automatically select the new device for you. Why not? I could go on and on, but I hear our baby getting up.
