I recently purchased an MX-810 from Surf Remote Control to replace my aging MX-700 and am unfortunately getting close to throwing it against the wall.

I got most everything set up in the Wizard and when I was ready to download to the remote spent a while trying to get the computer to see the remote. Using the included USB cable the computer would not see the remote. I swapped the cable out to another one and was finally able to get the computer to see the remote and after tweaking some settings in Parallels (I am running XP via Parallels on a MacBook Pro) got it to connect. The computer saw the remote, the Wizard saw the remote, and I was able to send the programming.

Now I am at home and want to make some changes and when I go to send to the remote it gets anywhere from 35% to 65% (though once to 82%) done and then the remote drops the connection to the computer and the update fails. The error I get is "Failed to download [TD-DD4]".

I don't have the cable I used at the office but I've tried a few others I have at home. As he updates fail midway the remote now has no software on it and is useless. Anybody got any suggestions? Thanks.

Same problem. Here's what works for me.

Pull your battery out to power cycle the remote. Reinsert it and then erase your settings (hold ACTIVITIES and ENT to bring up the system setup and scroll to Erase and Reset). Once reset, then you should be able to download your config.

Thanks Johnny - I removed the battery to power cycle the remote but didn't think to system reset it. It did eventually take though.

I did discover last night that the PCI Express SD card reader I had been using seemed to be the culprit in some sleep/wake issues I was having so that might have contributed to interfering with the usb bus. I haven't tried to update the remote again since pulling the card but will report back if things go smoother with it out.
