1) Unplug the remote 2) Uninstall the software 3) Reboot 4) Reinstall the software 5) Plug in the remote?

The NG software uses neither of these directly but I'd follow my procedures above just to make sure things get back to normal. May be that the .NET 2.0 did something to the database drivers.
