Here is my latest update:
Problem gone but, not solved.
I can not count the number of times I have reloaded my firmware and PCF but, this morning, my PCF is legible and is no longer washed out.
This was a frustrating experience and I wish I had a documented solution to share and for future reference but, I don't.
