Wattsn, very interesting, are you using a dial-up or always on broadband connection ?
Sounds just like what mine was doing.... Philips have had mine for over a month now, very frustrating.
Unlike you I bought from the US, I am very surprised you have such poor support from a UK dealer after spending a fortune with them. you should be able to get a swap easily being a UK unit.
My feeling here is a software / firmware problem but who knows ! It would be nice for someone from Philips to comment on this issue here on the forum.
Anyone from philips reading this ?
