That was great! It is very seldom that we work with equipment and suddenly realize that we have made an assumption that just seems to be so much a part of how the equipment works that we don't even realize we have assumed anything!
One of my clients has exactly this. I don't remember why they wanted this, but a modulator output upstairs goes back down the line that the sat signal goes up on, then breaks out of the satellite line, goes around the multiswitch, then diplexes back into a line and goes out to the living room TV along with the satellite signal. The same signal goes opposite to and along with the sat signal on two different cables in the same house.
What a pleasing moment it was when I realized this could be done!
