I don't remember where I found this out, but I know how to do a direct select on a Sony TV. It might have been from the AV2000.

What you need to do is send a TV/Video and then the number of the video source you want. If you want Video 3, send TV/VIDEO then 3. Wait about 2 seconds and it will switch to Video 3. You need to send the TV versions of "TV/VIDEO" and "3". Meaning, if you have your remote set to Video-3 already, hitting TV/Video will try to change the video-3's tv/video source. Likewise, hitting 3 on Video-3 will send "3" to that device, not the TV. (I'm sure you knew this, but just incase you didn't).

This worked fine for me on the Sony AV-2000, and should work on any device if you can maybe time it right.
