NTSC and PAL are types of coding they use for products depending on geographical regions. I do believe NTSC is for North America and other nearby regions, and that PAL is for european countries. From what I understand, in order to use products in conjunction with each other, they have to be made in the same geographical region. I own a DVD player, and I know they do that with the movies and the players -- it's a type of copyright. In fact, if you check inside the DVD cases, most have a chart showing the regions.
