I don't know what you mean by scanning frequencies, but if your Optus remote is IR you should be able to learn from it. The AV3000T can learn from any remote within the standard IR frequency range.
You can test your Optus by using any other universal learning remote and see if it learns the commands. If you don't have a learning remote you might be able to borrow one, or maybe a store will let you test it out.
