For me it is mixed. Some go thru AVR's, some direct to TV, every now & then an HDMI switcher, etc...
Also, sometimes with just HDMI cables other times thru extenders.

It is worth noting I always go thru the menus and manually set everything. I think it's hilarious 'so called' installers that just plug a box in and expect it to figure itself out. Every box in this industry has to be configured for the install in some way. Even if it's just running thru the menu and confirming the default settings are correct for the install (which for Roku is never the case).
