It checks your credentials against the database of authorized users. That's in the cloud.... on the internet.... which you don't have access to if it's offline!

Just tried this. Unplugged the Ethernet from my Win 10 notebook. Wireless off. Cannot connect to any Web site. I can indeed log in to CCP current version 4.12.0810.3. Don't know why.
