Got the R40 earlier today. It won't replace my current MX-980 for my main system, but it is more than adequate as a bedroom remote or for a simpler system. It replaced my 5 yr-old barely working MX-850 in the bedroom.

I agree pretty much with B. A. Roush's in-depth review on the Amazon website. Programming is fairly simple and straighforward and I really like the OLED screen. The VOL and CH buttons are in an "odd" place and I find myself hitting the buttons next to the cursor pad quite a bit instead. It takes a bit of getting used to. The red backlight is also quite harsh in a dark room and there in no brightness adjustment. A softer blue or even white would have been easier on the eyes. Other than those couple of nitpicks, I would not hesitate to recommend it.

The only thing I haven't figured out is how to delete a button. If anyone knows, I'd appreciate the how-to.
