Hi All,

Harmony wont work for me b/c the power-state tracking is no good in my application (I have multiple remotes controlling the same gear).

I love URC but they have a known documented issue with the RF receiver not controlling a DishNetwork DTV PAL DVR which I happen to own.

So I have a lot of remotes sitting around here right now all needing to be taken back- but I am not sure WHERE to go from here.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Are you trying to DIY it? If so, then you might be SOL. Consider hiring a pro.

Yeah- DIY-

So what does a pro have available that a DIY doesn't anyhow? This is a legit question. I am curious about this.

Thanks!

by request....

Ed will be known as the Tiger Woods of the integration business, followed closely with the renaming of his company to "Hotties A/V". The tag line will be "We like big racks and tight holes"...

Pros have the knowledge and access to the remotes that will do what you want to do.

I think times have changed a little bit. The Internet has really opened up the market and companies that were stubborn and didn't want to change had the hardest times, and most went out of business. Commercial enterprises opening themselves up to the public isn't a real big radical idea, but apparently if you want to stay in business these days you better be able to supply what you have to anyone wanting to pay. This includes Joe Smith only wanting 1 part and Joe's Garage wanting 50 parts.

I tend to agree. It isn't wise to artificially restrict your business model in order retain your elite status.

I don't see myself paying someone to configure my remote control- I WOULD pay them for some quality hardware/software though. I just have to figure out what that hardware/software is- and who is willing to sell it.

Thanks!!

Based on your URC comment initially, it isn't a programming issue but a RF setup issue, something that a pro would have very valuable experience in setting up. What is the specific model # of you sat?

The Set Top Box I am having problems with is a DishNetwork DTV Pal - DVR.

It is not a Sat box but instead- an over the air tuner with a DVR built in . It is currently sold by Channel Master and both units have reports on the web of not responding to the IR traffic from a URC blaster-

They work fine with the IR traffic from the remote directly but not with the RF / Blaster IR.

I understand that probably a pro could do something about it- but I doubt they could do it with URC.. .There seems to be an inherent problem with that hardware- which is what prompted my initial question I guess.

Anyhow. Thanks for the input!

I think the people at Crestron, AMX, Elan, RTI, and URC would not agree with you on this point.

They probably wouldn't-- ha ha- but history is littered with the remains of companies who thought too highly of themselves. :)

Anyhow- I am not putting these companies down and dont intend to turn this thread into a rant.

I just wanted to find myself a remote that can do Macro's, program from a PC, and is reliable.

Thanks!

The problem you run into is tech support. Products for DIYers require alot more tech support per user that pro products. DIYers usually need to be walked through programming their remote, and the more complicated the remote, the longer that tech support call will be. Since the cost is less, and the support time need to be greater, a companies profits go down. That sounds like a bad business plan.

Uhhhh...history remains of companies who thought too highly of themselves, though too lowly of themselves, bent over backwards for customers, and screwed customers up the you know what.

You shouldnt be giving advice to companies that are thriving - you cant even control your damn dish box.

Let me rephrase this for you o knowledgeable one:

I think times have changed a lot. The internet has really oopened the pantry for people to raid, steal software and entitle themselves to unauthorized products at a markdown that undercuts every dealer in the industry. Of course, this has not really benefited the consumer because nothing you buy seems to work anymore. Or, you cant get anyone on the phone to support it that understands a word of english. If you want to stay in business you have to bend down and take it up the .. because your customers will just buy it off sleazebay if they cant from you.

That's funny. Not going to argue the point my friend. I just was looking for some help on selecting a device. No worries.
