I think times have changed a little bit. The Internet has really opened up the market and companies that were stubborn and didn't want to change had the hardest times, and most went out of business. Commercial enterprises opening themselves up to the public isn't a real big radical idea, but apparently if you want to stay in business these days you better be able to supply what you have to anyone wanting to pay. This includes Joe Smith only wanting 1 part and Joe's Garage wanting 50 parts.
